Four Myths About Asian Women and White Men | HuffPost Canada
According to Pew Research, women of Asian ancestry in the US are Why do Asian women marry outside their race at such a higher than Asian males? . millionaire men to significantly change the dating pool for women. Not only was he the first Asian, he was the first person of color in the .. my dad never liked that I was dating a white girl throughout college, but. The strong 'support group' was largely populated by men who appear to hate women and in some cases advocate rape.
When I say toxic I mean it has normalised rape culture and violence against women. They were sexist, misogynistic and violent to the point where they supported and hailed Santa Barbara shooter Elliot Rodger a hero, who is a self professed incel himself. The move comes in the wake of the violent white supremacist protests in Charlottesville, Virginia, earlier this year, which resulted in a previous ban of at least one community.
Reddit has banned alt-right communities before; after the new rules took effect, however, administrators promptly banned more of them than ever before. And there are indications that such strict Reddit bans actually work to curtail violence and harassment on the internet. But where one toxic and misogynistic Reddit group bites the dust, there are many more which fly well under the radar.
Now moving onto Asian Reddit, which is the purpose of this piece. I have had a number of opportunities to dialogue with with many Asian sisters on Reddit, who tell me how much shit they face in there. Now this is a major concern for me because I feel sad and hurt to know that other Asian sisters are getting the heat for speaking out and their personal lives are being judged.
However, I do feel there is hope in terms of changes happening in Asian Reddit — particularly the Asian male dominated ones. It seems to have quite a big presence on Asian Reddit.
'Incel': Reddit bans misogynist men's group blaming women for their celibacy
I respect that this podcast was created to empower and inspire Asian men to be better and to be able to forge their own paths on their own identity. From speaking to some of those behind the podcast, I do see genuine motivations to want to change some of the attitudes and behaviours within these Reddit communities. I went on, to show that the majority of Asian women want to unite and work together on the greater struggles and that when we talk about toxic masculinity, patriarchy and harassment it is not a jab at ALL Asian men, but it is a jab on the sub culture which still exists and a sub culture which can change.
I felt the topics discussed on the podcast was very useful and we were pretty much in agreement on most issues and that this is how it should be. To be honest the reactions were mixed in terms of how Asian Reddit saw it.
How The First Asian In NBA History Was Sadly Bullied Out : nba
There were still elements of those who felt I am already a lost cause or no hope, but there were also comments which sounded promising in terms of how they felt and how they thought Asian women and Asian feminists actually are. My purpose was to talk about why harassment and bullying is not OK, and I think the message got through considering everyone agreed that there should be no tolerance on bullying and harassing Asian women.
I think it would be good to continue this dialogue and see where changes can be enacted in terms of changing this sub culture. I do know that not all Asian men are out to slag Asian women, but we still need to acknowledge that the problem still exists and is still there. It will take time and continual dialogues to change this, and despite having many commitments myself, I would like to see if we can change this.
I think going on the mangrila podcast was a great start. Here is an example of a post: Asian Women are sweet, innocent and submissive. The myth that Asian women are more submissive rings true for those who have never actually dated an Asian woman.
Take for example Steven, the main character of " Seeking Asian Female ", who saw images of Vietnamese women in films like The Scent of Green Papaya and wondered, would his future wife be an "idyllic servant girl who would cook these beautiful meals? At the end of his year search, he found Sandy, from Anhui, China, who was half his age.
For Steven, the real-life experience of Sandy's emotional, controlling and fiery temperament was still quite biting.
Many Asian women think so. According to Jenny, who moved to the U. They're not very masculine. An American man is an Asian woman's "ticket to a better life.
Julia Ma cautions, "Girls living in another country, they have no idea -- they think here is heaven, people with money, but it's nothing like that. But sometimes Asian women "think they are marrying a 'more liberal' Western man," only to find out he's actually looking for a traditional Asian woman, explains journalist, Sheridan Prasso who studied this in her book, The Asian Mystique, Dragon Ladies, Geisha Girls and Our Fantasies of the Exotic Orient. These women "know what they need to survive and to help their extended family.
They saw an opportunity in that Asian fetish," then marry Western men "who wake up to find themselves among 20 of her relatives and he's totally outnumbered.
Asian women are sex-crazed, and sex with Asian women is easy. In our interviews, we heard these sorts of comments frequently: Compared to other fetishes on the internet, such as leather, shoe or redheads, "Asian women are fetishized more than any other fetish," says Prasso. The harder truth is, the Asian sex and trafficking trade remains one of the largest and most lucrative in the world, making Myth No. If you pay for it, sex with Asian women is "easy.
The racist myth that "all Orientals look the same" was debunked long ago, but it bears reminding all Asian women are not the same either.
By grounding our relationships in reality we get past our expectations and truly get to know each other as individuals -- we can't debunk all the myths, but it's a start.
