A Group of concerned Garinagu met with Dr George Irish from Medgar Evers College to discuss ways to educate teachers on the Garifuna culture, remind the Board of Education and the Bilingual Department of the need to provide cultural training; design a training program to prepare Garinagu teachers for state certification; employment of Garinagu paraprofessionals to help our kids function better in the school system.
The goal of this club was to bring together the Garifuna students of the different institutions of higher learning.
